Candle Care

Safety Tip's

My Candles are designed not to burn completely thru to the bottom this prevents the candle from igniting anything under the candle from burn thru.

  1. Remove wax from holders or containers by running very hot water over them.
  2.
  3. .Clean solid candles with a piece of nylon or use a touch of salad oil on a soft cloth. or use a piece of cheese cloth to whip down the candle and clean the openings and cracks.

  4. When blowing out a candle, hold your finger in front of the flame and blow at it. The air will flow around the finger and extinguish the candle from both sides. This will prevent hot wax from splattering.

  5. Avoid burning candles near combustible materials. curtains, bedding ,hanging clothing or any flammable materials.

  6. Always store candles in a cool, dark, dry place. They should be stored flat to prevent warping. Before a party, light and extinguish the candles. They'll light more quickly and easily later.

  7. Avoid putting candles in drafts to prevent rapid and uneven burning and excessive dripping. Keep wicks trimmed to one half inch. Long or crooked wicks cause uneven burning and dripping.

  8. Candles should always be burned in proper candle-holders or bases. and placed so that they will not be knocked over.

  9. To remove wax from washable fabrics, scrape off excess wax and run boiling water through the material.

  10. NEVER leave any burning candles unattended or with small children present and pets.

  11. Candles refrigerated before using will burn more slowly and evenly. Wrap in foil or plastic before refrigeration to prevent wicks from absorbing moisture.

  12. Keep votive wicks centered and trimmed to 1/4" while burning to prevent breaking the glass

  13. Do not put candles in a window or directly expose to bright outdoor light or indoor spotlights. Extinguish candles when they get within 2 inches of their holders or decorations.

  14. Keep lighted candles out of the reach of children and pets

  15. If a wick becomes too short to light, carve away enough wax to expose the fresh wick, then trim 1/8" to 1/4" off the top of the candle and burn the candle to reform its appearance (tapers are the exception to this rule.)

  16. Votive candles will clean easily if you add 1/8" of water to the glass before inserting the candle. Candles will fade if left in the light for an extended period of time.

  17. Always extinguish candles before spray painting or using flammable solvents, paints, or cleaners.

BOULDER
Candle starts apartment fire

Boulder firefighters extinguished an apartment fire Friday that was started by an unattended candle.

No one was injured.

According to officials, a passer-by saw smoke coming from a garden-level apartment at 2324 14th St. at 2:35 p.m. and called 911. A candle — left burning on a windowsill — had melted the plastic blinds, causing a large amount of smoke.

The fire was contained to the living room and kitchen area.

"Candles are deceptive because people don't think of them as a fire," said Sherry Kenyon, fire safety educator.

Authorities estimated the damage at $500.
